Leaf from an Index book kept by Aaron Burr, 1782

This is a leaf from an Index book kept by Aaron Burr, begun January 27, 1782, a few days after he was admitted as an Attorney of the Supreme Court of the State and opened office in Albany. He was then 26 years old. After practicing at Albany two years, he removed to New York City. Before he left, He presented his Index book to Peter W. Yates, a highly distinguished lawyer in Albany who afterward presented it to the celebrated Abraham Van Vechten, who gave it to William L. Marcy, who donated it to former Governor of New York, Mr. Horatio Seymour.
