Description

This journal, "kept by Lieutenant Williams of His Majesty's Twenty-third Regiment, 1774-1775," includes details of the battles and lists of casualties for the Revolutionary War. This journal also includes a description of the use of signal lights from the church belfries (pages 114-115), and several charming watercolor miniatures created by Wiliams who was a talented artist and map maker. Other parts of the journal describe Lt. Williams' European travels.

Physical description: 158 pages, 120 pages, 12 pages, 8 unnumbered pages, 4 unnumbered pages : illustrations, facsimile : 22 cm. In antiqued calf, with marbled paper covered boards, gilt stamped spine title and panel fillets, red speckled edges. Rebound in December 1961, by Robert Muma, binder's note pasted on recto of back free endpaper.
